Volunteering opportunities with Refuge
Refuge is the UK's largest single provider of specialist accommodation and support to women and children escaping domestic violence. They are looking for committed female* volunteers for the 24 hour freephone national domestic violence helpline (run in partnership between Refuge and Women’s Aid). As a helpline volunteer you would provide vital confidential support and practical help to women experiencing domestic violence, and to agencies working with abused women and their families. You would be answering calls on a four-hour rota basis. The minimum time commitment required is two regular four-hour-shifts per month.
The helpline is the first port of call for thousands of women who are in abusive relationships. You would be helping to change lives and to save lives. Full training is provided and the next course starts in January 2009. For more information, please click here to visit the Refuge website and find out how you can play an
important part in helping these women rebuild their lives. To apply, download an application form and send to volunteering@refuge.org.uk. *Section 7.2(d) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 applies. Refuge is an equal opportunities employer.

WeAreTheCity are proud to support the following charities
As a child I remember watching images of Ethiopian orphans on the news during their famine. The images really shocked me and I decided then, aged 9 or 10, that I would one day help Africa’s orphans. When I was 17 I took a Gap Year in Zimbabwe and I worked in an Orphanage. The children were sick, abused and neglected and yet they all had smiles, love and hope. This experience only reinforced my plans. Once I got married, my Husband was fully in support of my plan and together we built a Baby Home to care for Orphaned, Abandoned and HIV positive babies.
