01/10/22: Black History Month Launch event | Islington Council

black history month event

We are excited to kick start Black History Month 2022 with a celebration event that will be held in person.

Following two years of lock down restrictions we are delighted to finally be able to unite our community and spotlight some of our Black owned businesses as part of our Black History Month celebration. This event will provide entertainment, refreshments opportunities to buy from local Black owned businesses and will also showcase other events we have planned throughout the month.

Guest speakers invited to present at this event include:

• Sofia Strachan, CEO of Just As You Are, an organisation which empowers and educates young people

• Charisse Monero, Programme Director of Islington Council’s Black Men and Mental Health Programme

• Leon Robinson, Positive Steps

The following Black owned businesses will have stalls at this event:

• New Beacon Book store

• ARTivities UK – Children of the Windrush Art Exhibition

• Lesley’s Sauces

• Naomi Wynter, Shea Love London

• Leon Robinson, Forget-Me-Not Project Exhibition
