Jen and I had become more than just work colleagues. Given we were in the same department, it was rather dangerous. Needless to say, it was also incredibly exciting. In the staff canteen I even found myself urgently whispering “we have to be careful.”
Still, I was crazy about her.
One night whilst reading the London Evening Standard on the train home I had an epiphany.
I took the picture below and sent it to Jen with the somewhat smug caption “look what I have saved you from, baby.”
In a flash she emailed back saying, “funny, sweetheart but let’s not forget that I am the one saving you.”
The train rumbled over Hungerford Bridge and I glanced down at the swirling black waters of the Thames.
My god, I thought. She’s right.
