Hollywood actress Emma Stone has been named the highest-paid female actor in Forbes’ annual list.
The 28-year-old actress made $26 million over the last year, the majority of which was earned for La La Land, which saw Stone win her first Academy Award.
The movie made over $445m worldwide.
Closely following Stone was Jennifer Aniston, who made $25.5m, mainly from endorsements such as Emirates airlines and SmartWater. Aniston was recently attached to a television comedy series alongside Reese Witherspoon.
In third is 2016’s highest-paid actress, Jennifer Lawrence, who made $24 million. Lawrence’s earnings also include an endorsement, for Dior. Melissa McCarthy and Mila Kunis make up the rest of the top five.
Emma Watson, after her starring role in Beauty and the Beast, is in sixth place. The rest of the top ten are Charlize Theron, Cate Blanchett, Julia Roberts and Amy Adams.
This year saw three women make over $20 million, less women than in 2016’s list. The earnings are made up of a 12-month pre-tax scoring period from Nielsen data, box office numbers, and industry insiders expertise.
Emma Stone has been a prominent figure in speaking out against pay disparity:
“In my career so far, I’ve needed my male co-stars to take a pay cut so that I may have parity with them,”
“And that’s something they do for me because they feel it’s what’s right and fair,” she continued.
That’s something that’s also not discussed, necessarily: that our getting equal pay is going to require people to selflessly say, ‘That’s what’s fair.’”
