Event Details

Chi Onwurah MP, Shadow Minister for Industrial Strategy, Science and Innovation will talk about the opportunities and challenges of diversity.

Imperial College has this year become a member of the Race Equality Charter and will be applying for a charter mark as part of our commitment to equality and diversity. As we begin this work we want to give greater prominence to the issues faced by black and minority ethnic students and staff at the university and we are delighted to host Chi Onwurah MP.

Chi is the Labour MP for Newcastle upon Tyne Central and Shadow Minister for Industrial Strategy, Science and Innovation. Chi is also a passionate campaigner on gender issues and is currently chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Diversity and Inclusion in STEM. In her talk at Imperial she will reflect on her own experiences of studying and working in STEM, why diversity matters, and what universities need to do in order to attract and retain talented students from all walks of life. The event will include ample time for a Q&A session with the audience and be flowed by light refreshments.
