Foundation? – On The Run blog

NogaBlog-1I love buying makeup products. However, sometime ago I realised whilst inspecting my makeup bag that I was really spending money in vain as I did not use most of the products.

The truth is that I am not that good in applying makeup, so mostly I just stick to the basics, also somehow and no matter how early I wake up, I often find myself either in a rush or just forgetting to do it.

Well, as I prefer comfort against beauty (yes I do! even if it is somehow against the grain) I decided to just give up on using any kind of foundation.

I am usually told that the application of a foundation should be one of my basics and a must for a neat look and long lasting effect. However, I always find it difficult searching for a suitable one. I have tried different types and brands of foundations but mostly at no avail.

Why? because wearing it used to make me feel uncomfortable, I would feel as if I had a mask on my face and my pores were blocked (such as my last one, Lancome’s mattifying makeup with SPF). Also, some of the products just did not appear to look natural and their appearance was quite noticeable (such as, Clinique’s for oily skin that looked too powdery for my taste. To be fair however, I did try the Dr.Hauschka Translucent Make-up, and in general it was not too bad, however it did not include SPF protection).

Well, as I prefer comfort against beauty (yes I do! even if it is somehow against the grain) I decided to just give up on using any kind of foundation. My makeup included only a touch of blush, mascarra and lipstick. This worked pretty well for me and I felt quite good (OK not Cindy Crawford but who cares). Especially during the time I was working in Tel Aviv, wearing make-up in the heat was unbearable, and unfortunately, although a very important ingredient, I found that creams containing SPF protection exacerbated my tendency to having an oily skin around my T zone.

Recently, my youngest sister came to visit, and she looked (as usual) lovely but especially I noticed that her complexion looked great, I of course complimented her on her looks and she told me that she was wearing her favourite makeup, I could not notice she had any and she claimed that it also felt great!

I can happily say that I have finally found what I was looking for!

It was a Bobbi Brown SPF tinted moisturiser with a touch of a Bobbi Brown blush. The same week we went together and I bought the pair and also, as my skin tends to be oily, I was recommended by the specialist there (Selfridge) to use a powder to settle the makeup on my T zone (eliminate greasy feeling) and for a long lasting effect. At first I was reluctant as I did not want to buy yet again another superflous product and also dreaded having too many layers on my face, but the advice seemed reasonable (due to my past experience) and my sister had approved:-) so I purchased the powder as well.

I can happily say that I have finally found what I was looking for! I use the products every day, applying only a very modest amount, I look good and more important it feels great (i.e., I do not feel it)! So I warmly recommend trying these products (of course there are different colors for different skin tones).

  • Bobbi Brown 15 SPF Tinted Moisturizer (Light to Medium Tint) £29
  • Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder (Warm Natural) £26
  • Bobbi Brown Blush (Nude Peach) £19
