The Gender Directive, women’s insurance, and driving statistics

Since the introduction of new legislation in December 2012, which states that insurance providers can no longer set the price of premiums by taking the gender of the driver into consideration, cheap car insurance for women has been more difficult to find.

Male motorists, historically, have been seen as higher risk drivers and their car insurance was priced accordingly. When the insurance gender equality law came into effect, cover providers chose to increase prices for women to be parallel with their male-driver counterparts.

Women drivers are very active on UK roads and there are a number of interesting statistics available. Covergirl has created a thought-provoking infographic for your information.

It might be more difficult for women to find affordable quotes for car insurance nowadays but, thankfully, Covergirl Car Insurance – in partnership with – can help road users compare quotes for cover quickly and easily.
