Getting away from it all on a romantic break this festive season

Christmas can be a great time to catch up with friends and family. That said, it’s also nice image002to steal some alone time with your partner. After all, if you’re not careful, the festive season can quickly descend into a whirlwind of social obligations, cleaning and catering, and this is hardly the best way to unwind after the stress of work.

Booking a trip away from home solves this problem. By arranging holidays on or around December 25th, you can ensure you get to enjoy some quality time with your partner and you should be able to relax in style. If it’s sun, sand and sea you’re after, few destinations can beat Barbados. This Caribbean island boasts beautiful beaches, plush hotels, fine restaurants and much more. If you’re keen to get under the waves, there are plenty of opportunities to scuba dive and it’s also well worth taking a look at the plantation houses dotted around the island.

Another sun-soaked holiday spot that may pique your interest is the west coast of Mexico. For some privacy, you can book the rental homes available in places such as Jalisco and Guerrero, and you can spend your days sightseeing in picturesque towns, snorkelling, lounging on the beach and dining al fresco. You’ll feel a million miles away from the cold and wet UK. If you’re after some culture while on vacation, you can check out the country’s impressive stone churches that are a legacy of Mexico’s Spanish colonial era. The nation also has plenty of museums and galleries for you to explore.

If you don’t fancy long-haul travel, perhaps Paris would be perfect? One of the most romantic cities in the world, it is the perfect place to while away a few days. Also, the French capital generally remains above freezing over the festive season, making it more comfortable than other festive holiday favourites like New York. While in the city, you can take a trip up the Eiffel Tower, visit the Louvre, check out the Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame Cathedral, take a river cruise and much more. There are also wine tastings to enjoy and a host of sumptuous restaurants.

Of course, you may not want to leave the UK over the Christmas period. Perhaps your work or family commitments prevent you from jetting off overseas. If this is the case, it’s well worth checking out the various destinations on offer around Britain. Even if you only have a couple of days to spare to relax with your partner, there are lots of options.

For example, the Lake District may be ideal. You can book a luxurious hotel or cosy cottage in the National Park and, weather permitting, set off for walks in the beautiful rolling hills. Meanwhile, if the weather isn’t cooperating, you can always curl up by a roaring fire. Devon is another option. The north coast of the county boasts some excellent spots for bracing beach walks and there are plenty of pubs and eateries around to make the most of.
