Live from New York Clinton appeared via a video feed from New York to thank her supporters for awarding her the presidential nomination.

She said: “If there are any little girls out there who stayed up late to watch let me just say, I may be the first woman president but one of you is next.”

Clinton became the first woman in 240 years to lead the US residential race for a major political party.

She is also the first ever former-First Lady to run for President, due to her marriage to former-President Bill Clinton. The former Secretary of State is also the first woman to be elected senator from New York.

Clinton will face the Republican nominee Donald Trump in a general election in November.

She launched her first race for the White House in 2008, but was defeated by then first-term Senator Barack Obama in the nomination race, who later won the general election and became the first US African-American president.

Meryl Streep spoke in support of Clinton at the event and Alicia Keys performed.

Celebrities recently came together to create a “Fight Song” video in support of Hillary Clinton. The full video is posted below.
