In 2015, more than 400 organisations worldwide took part in the week and thousands more people are now aware of their HIV and hepatitis status.

Testing week is an initiative that was launched by HIV in Europe in 2013 to help more people to become aware of their HIV status. Now in it’s forth year, it is seeing the world’s fastest HIV self-test go on sale in the UK, reliving pressure on our overcrowded sexual clinics.

bioLytical Laboratories has developed the INSTI® HIV Self Test following research revealing that over 103,000 people are living with HIV in the UK and that there is an estimated 18,100 who are completely unaware of their positive status. Patients have been diagnosed late as a result of failures to fund routine testing in GP surgeries.

Stan Miele, bioLytical’s Chief Commercial Officer, says:

‘Our purpose in developing the INSTI HIV Self Test was to provide an easy, affordable, consumer-friendly solution that would empower individuals to take control of their health in a discrete way, and within the comfort of their own home. Consumers want to know their status as soon as possible. Now they can choose INSTI which detects HIV up to two weeks sooner than all other HIV home tests currently on the market.’

With just a single finger prick, and one drop of blood , the INSTI HIV Self Test provides instant results and is is over 99% accurate. The kit is the fastest in the world, as currently individuals must wait twenty minutes after conducting the test for a result to be produced.

The INSTI HIV Self Test kit also includes a resource card on where to seek help or for those who have general questions on HIV screening.

Hiv Test Week

Celebrities have been endorsing #HIVTestWeek to encourage people to take the test, including Prince Harry in the summer. HRH took a HIV test and streamed it live on Facebook.

On the film Prince Harry said: “Whether you are a man, woman, gay, straight, black, white, whatever, even ginger – why wouldn’t you come and have a test?

The test is available now online at and costs 29.95 Euros (£25.95*) per kit.
