According to Trades Union Congress (TUC), the average London commuter is battling an 81-minute journey every day.  The UK average commute is a total of 58 minutes.

The time spent on a commute is often taken up by listening to music, reading or avoiding the overall hustle and bustle of the journey.  Surely, there is a better way to spend such a substantial amount of time?  Here, the experts at Finance gives seven tips on how to make money on your commute to boost your income!

Everyone’s a blogger

2018 is once again, the year of the blogger.  Whether it is travel, lifestyle, building or investments, everyone is an expert in something.  Why not use your commuting time to blog about your expertise?  This can evolve into a profitable second income when combined with advertising and affiliate marketing.

I am doing it for the gram

Whether you are a budding photographer or a social media addict, setting up an Instagram can develop into a thriving business.  Quality imagery with an overall theme and topical hashtags can gain a significant following.  In turn, big brands that are relevant to your content can want to get in front of your followers, and their potential consumers.  This opens the gates for Sponsored posts and a boost to your every day income.

Get crafty

With sites such as Etsy, the arts and craft industry is thriving.  Hone in on your talents and take up the likes of knitting and crocheting on your commute.  Advertising the finished product on sites such as Etsy can mean that you have a steady second income that holds the potential of overshadowing your initial career.

I have a quick question

Stop ignoring the pop ups in your inbox to submit a questionnaire and use your commute to time to answer their questions.  Often, the outcome is that you are entered into a competition however, there are several websites that give upwards of £5 for every user that answers their questions.  With 116 minutes a day spare commuting, this could soon add up.

Ebay it!

eBay may be an obvious proposal however, dedicating your evening to eBay is not the average persons idea of fun.  Why not take the images of your unwanted items and then spend your commute performing the somewhat tedious task of product descriptions, pricing and uploading.

Find your dream

Always fancied yourself as the next Richard Branson?  Take some time out in your every day commute to find your passion.  Research your business ideas, find your potential target audience and find a resolution to a problem that could reveal a gap in the market.

Buy to Sell

Are you a secret shopper?  Shop the bargains online whist on your commute to work and then resell them for a profit.  Sites such as Shpock are great for this!
