Carolina is 27 years old and originally from Cyprus. She graduated from the London School of Economics in 2006 with a BSc in Accounting and Finance and qualified for the ACA from the ICAEW in 2010.
Carolina joined Deloitte in March 2011 as a Manager in Transaction Services. Prior to this, Carolina worked in the Banking and Capital Markets audit division in PwC London for four years specialising in the audit of Special Purpose Entities used in securitisation structures. Carolina also did a seven month secondment in the Post Merger Integration Group whilst at PwC where she assisted on synergy reviews, carve outs and post-merger integration projects.
Tell us a little bit about a day in the life of a Manager in Transaction Services
I work in Transaction Services, which is part of the Deloitte Corporate Finance department. I focus mostly on managing buy-side and sell-side due diligence projects for corporate and private equity clients, primarily in the TMT industry.
I am the key point of contact for the client throughout any project lifecycle. My day to day responsibilities primarily comprise of managing a team who undertake the due diligence work within the agreed time frame and budget, whilst at the same time managing both the client’s and my partner’s expectations throughout the project. I am also responsible for the project administration which will include creating a work plan, drafting client engagement letters, preparing budgets, carrying out conflict checks and Know Your Customer procedures, sourcing a project team and billing the client.
In addition to this, I try to improve my knowledge of the wider Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) industry by researching the market for new and upcoming deals and discuss any attractive opportunities with the TMT partners. I also assist the partners in the preparation of client discussion documents and pitches to win new work.
What did you study or what experience did you obtain in order to get in to your current role?
I studied Accounting and Finance at the London School of Economics. Prior to joining Deloitte, I completed my ACA qualification whilst working at PwC in the Banking and Capital Markets audit division. During my time in PwC, I also completed a secondment in the Post Merger Integration division which gave me a glimpse into the exciting and dynamic world of M&A.
What do you most enjoy about your role?
I enjoy the fact that every project I work on is different in terms of client, scope of work, geographical location, data availability and timing. This allows me to improve my understanding of the market, expand my client network and learn how to overcome various challenges.
Can you tell us a little bit about what is great about working at Deloitte?
The great thing about working for Deloitte is that it is one of the BIG4 Accountancy firms, with offices all over the world and works with very high profile clients. It therefore offers a very dynamic work environment which I particularly enjoy. Do you network either internal or externally?
Both. At work I attend client breakfast meetings and other client social engagements. I also attend various training courses across Europe which allow me to meet Deloitte staff from other countries and expand my internal network.
Tell us about your own career aspirations?
I would like to become an expert in the Private Equity and TMT industries in order to strengthen my contact with key people in these industries and increase the volume and quality of deal flow.

What advice would you give to someone wanting a career in your profession?
I would advise anyone who wants a career in Transaction Services to actively monitor the M&A deal activity through either merger market news alerts or reading the Financial Times. This will allow you to understand the current trends in the market, the challenges our clients face and be in a position to identify new deals which may be of interest to existing clients.
