I chose to apply to IBM as I was very interested by their Smarter Planet initiatives as well as by Watson, particularly in the Life Sciences and Healthcare field.
Since joining their consulting services I have been heavily involved in the Life Sciences and Pharma division, working on solutioning and delivering projects specifically involving Watson Health in Europe.
I find the projects in this field to be very interesting and rewarding as they can have a meaningful impact in terms of health outcomes, and I enjoy working as a consultant in this field because it allows me to continue to apply and develop my analytical and problem solving skills, as well as my soft skills, in a dynamic and challenging environment.
There is never a dull moment! The biggest challenge I would say was understanding how things worked within such a big company as it was a very different system from academia, but it was quickly solved by building and using my network; everyone is very friendly, junior and senior alike. Overall I would say there are a lot of different opportunities at IBM, you just have to decide what you want to do and find them.
