Inspirational Woman: Pat Dunion | Chief Operating Officer of Transform

Pat DunionPat Dunion is the Chief Operating Officer of Transform- the UK’s number one provider of cosmetic surgery.

Tell us about yourself, your background and what you do currently

I born in the 60’s and brought up in a mining village in the West of Scotland. My Dad was a miner and my Mum was a nursing assistant in our local hospital as well as our local councillor, on the parish and school councils and chair of her hospital union, and until her recent 90th birthday, she has remained active in the community!

I graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University in 1987 with a BA (Hons) Business Studies where I had completed a sandwich course and worked for IBM in Edinburgh and Manchester for a year as part of my degree.

On graduation, I joined a northern based IT company, Logitec, as their commercial manager before moving to IBM a year later. I spent 18 very challenging and rewarding years in IBM where as a member of their ‘Executive Resources’ Programme I held a variety of senior positions across the UK and Europe with the need for frequent business trips to the USA in my latter years. I relished the challenge each new position brought and received first class training.

I joined Transform Cosmetic Surgery 8 years ago to work closer to home upon my husband’s early retirement. I joined as a Commercial Director and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer two years later.  I am responsible for the day to day running of the Company  with almost 400 staff, 40 surgeons and 60 Doctors/nurses all delivering exceptional patient care to meet our three year rolling business plan. Given the highly competitive nature of the cosmetic surgery industry and the choices patients have, there is never a dull moment!

What has been your biggest challenge?

Delivering my very first IT project to time and budget (it was to a central high profile Government Department….no mean feat!)

Managing my work / life balance and being there for those I love when needed.

What’s been your greatest achievement personally?

Surviving a trip on Blackpool’s Big Dipper when I am terrified of Heights! I had just spent a year bidding and wining a large Government Contract and my team chose Blackpool Pleasure Beach as the recognition night out! Given how hard they had all worked for me that year I had no choice but to go on the ride with them – terrifying!!!!

More recently, I was awarded the Alumni Achievement Award from Caledonian University, which was a great honour to receive and something that I’m extremely proud of.

If you weren’t doing what you do, what would you be doing?

Travelling with good company and a good book!

Who has been your biggest inspiration?

My Mum.

Given the highly competitive nature of the cosmetic surgery industry and the choices patients have, there is never a dull moment!

What does the future hold for you?

Steering Transform through it’s next chapter and securing it’s future for the next 40 years.

Enjoying quality time with my family and friends and continuing to travel widely with good company and good books!
