Tell us a bit about yourself, background and what you do currently

I am the founder of MyCarGossip, a motoring website for female drivers where they can recommend all types of reliable and trustworthy motoring businesses to other women drivers. Essentially it is online word of mouth for women who like to discuss their car experiences. Whether it is a new car that they have just bought and the great experience they had buying it, or having to take their car in for an MOT and service and not knowing how much it should cost and being worried that they are going to get over charged. MyCarGossip offers a directory of recommended businesses that are recommended by their female customers; we also provide a blog with car advice from experts within the industry.

Before MyCarGossip I worked at Groupon and discovered the start-up atmosphere and how successful a start-up can be. Before Groupon I was at university and working part time for a car warranties company up in Leeds.

What has been your biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge has been building the business up from scratch. I had no previous business experience so everything I have achieved has been self-taught and through listening to advice from successful people. There have been challenges throughout, from finding a web developer to managing accounts, to hiring a sales person. Luckily I have huge support from my friends and family, especially my dad who has created, grown and sold many businesses and has introduced me to some amazing people who are helping me on my journey.

What’s been your greatest achievement personally?

Funnily enough I feel like I achieve something new every day.

When I speak to various people, whether it is to sell our concept to a company or if I’m speaking to a successful business person, everyone who is positive about MyCarGossip and believes in the idea feels like an achievement. My overall achievement would have to be just taking a leap of faith and creating something that doesn’t already exist in the UK.

If you weren’t doing what you do, what would you be doing?

If I wasn’t doing this, I would be working at another start up company. The start up world is so exciting I wouldn’t want to be working at any other type of company.

I enjoy bringing new ideas and seeing new concepts grow, it is also a very supportive community- especially the female start up community.

Who has been your biggest inspiration?

My dad is my biggest inspiration, he has been so successful in business and everyone I meet who knows him speaks so highly of him. It would be amazing to be as successful as him and achieve what he has achieved.

Apart from my dad, I have been lucky enough to already meet some really inspiration women on my journey with MyCarGossip. Every woman I have met over the past 10 months has introduced me to at least one other person who can help me. I have been invited to conferences, meetings and events with women who have achieved the most incredible things.

All these women are hugely inspirational.

What does the future hold for you?

The future is to create a large community of women and help them find reliable and trustworthy motoring businesses in their local areas. We would like to have a forum where women can get advice from each other about car related topics.  We are also looking at creating some exciting events for women who want to learn how to look after their car from checking the oil to changing a tyre. These events will hopefully be happening in the New Year and will be run by experts in the motoring industry.
