Introducing Guest Blogger: Heba Elawadi, founder of Hebz | Fashion & Style Blog

The world of fashion and design heavily influenced Heba Elawadi’s formative years, thanks to family owned factories specializing in the manufacture of children’s wear. As a result, Heba began experimenting with art and design at a young age.

Afforded free reign to test the limits of her own imagination, her fresh funky designs soon caught the eye of fashion trendsetters and industry professionals alike. Elawadi’s designs reach across the world and she has already featured in a number of local and international publications.

Her “Peace and Love” bracelets were created for a good cause and their popularity picked up in other parts of the world and were featured in Vogue UK magazine, Glamour magazine, Sunday Express and Easy Living, Grazia, Brides UK to name a few.

Hebz launched the first H E B Z Boutique in Jan 2012, in The First Mall, Four Seasons, Cairo, Egypt.

You can’t succeed without failing

What is your proudest achievement?

My achievements are reaching my goals. I like to set targets for myself and achieve them.  Development is my proudest achievement. I go with the motto “Life is not a race, it’s a marathon.” It’s not about how fast I can get there. It’s about the right time and the right pace. You can’t succeed without failing, and I’ve been through many trials and errors since I’ve started my business. It sounds cliché, but it’s true. You wouldn’t be strong if you didn’t know what it was like to be weak. I get a lot of messages acknowledging my work and effort, which keeps me going. I’d like to be inspirational. I don’t think anything is impossible.

Who is your female inspiration?

Influential women inspire me. Women that love what they do, know what they want, are great at doing it, don’t take no for an answer and don’t stop. Michelle Obama, Diana (Princess of Wales), Tamara Mellon, Martha Stewart, Beyonce, Madonna, Oprah Winfrey, Maya Angelou, Angelina Jolie, Mother Teresa, Zaha Hadid, Annie Leibovitz, Victoria Beckham, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Rihanna, Dita Von Teese, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Grace Kelly, Queen Elizabeth II, Margaret Thatcher, Benazir Bhutto, Heidi Klum, Helena Christensen, Natalia Vodianova, Bobbi Brown, Jo Malone, Estee Lauder, Diane von Furstenberg, Miuccia Prada, Donna Karen, Stella McCartney, Sonia Rykiel, Natalie Massenet, Vivienne Westwood, Anya Hindmarch. Pretty much every female that has made a difference in the world, in all fields like philanthropy, entrepreneurs, humanitarians, designers that support a cause, style icons, entertainers, first ladies, whatever it may be!

What is your top tip for starting a business?

Get experience. Stay focused on whatever you wish to do, keep an open mind and listen to what everyone has to say, good or bad. Ask questions and don’t let anyone put you down. Follow your dreams, stay true to yourself and remain tenacious.

What would you like to achieve over the next 12 months?

I would like open another boutique, launch my website for people to be able to buy online, since I get a lot of orders internationally. I’d like to take my vision to the next level by taking the shopping experience to another level. I am learning so much so fast, and I’d like to continue to use the next 12 months as a learning experience. I am involved in every aspect of the business and I am enjoying knowing where things could go wrong and finding solutions for them and more importantly making the right decisions so it could help me move faster to achieving my goals.
