Kesha has partnered with Sheryl Sandberg’s OptionB to pen an open letter about struggling with mental health over the Christmas period.
The singer, who has been open about her struggle with mental health, penned the letter to offer advice on combating health issues in a ‘stressful and emotional time’.
In the heartfelt letter, published in Time, the singer explains that being ‘forced’ to spend time with family you may not see often or get along with is often the cause of stress during the Christmas holidays.
She also attributed poor mental health at Christmas to being alone ‘when everyone else is with family’.
“Or you are off from work, with more time to think troubling thoughts,” she wrote.
“Or you are at work and can’t be with those you love. Or you are thrust into party situations that tempt your demons.
Or you aren’t invited to those tempting parties.”
Offering some advice, Kesha tells readers to break from their everyday routine.
“You are off from work, with more time to think troubling thoughts which throw your game.”
She continues, “Take a walk in nature… It is not your responsibility to make the whole world happy,”
“Trying to spend all of your time pleasing everyone else is not only exhausting — it’s impossible.
And you know what? If you take a little time for yourself, you will actually be much better company for those around you”.
The singer listed mediation, apps to help de-stress, talking to a trusted friend and taking some much needed time alone for a walk or relaxation to help combat mental health issues.
Kesha penned the letter as part of TIME’s partnership with OptionB.Org — Sheryl Sandberg’s nonprofit initiative focused on helping people facing challenges in life.
