Do you remember the angst of your teen years? The boys, the size 10 Jeans, the exams, all the questions and choices, the peer pressure, the parents that simply did not get you?
Well nothing has changed, in fact with the arrival of social media and the pressure to grow up super fast the landscape has got decidedly worse, particularly for girls.
Teen pregnancy, self harming and other mental health issues, early sexualisation, overtly pornographic imagery and an over riding focus on external validation is leading to a generation of girls who are more focused on how they look versus who they are and what they are capable of.
Girls Out Loud is a social enterprise and charity that supports, inspires and mentors teenage girls in the UK with a view to embedding a more empowering mindset and raising aspirations. Our work is much needed but as ever, sourcing the funding to support our girls is a constant challenge.
With this in mind we invite you to support our Teen2Teen campaign launching this week and help us encourage a mass response to make a real difference.
All you have to do is post a picture of yourself as a teenager on your social media pages then either text SELF98 £5 (or more) to 70070 or donate at http://www.justgiving.com/Teen2Teen then nominate at least 5 of your friends to do the same. Alongside your picture you may also like to post some words of wisdom you would share with your teen self knowing what you know now?
Initially we hope to raise enough money to work with over 1000 girls across 15 schools who will pay it forward and start a revolution!
