A new character has been created for the Mr Men and Little Miss Series- a female scientist named Little Miss Inventor.
Her author and illustrator, Adam Hargreaves said ‘Little Miss Inventor’ had been created as a ‘positive role model’ for girls.
Little Miss Inventor has pencils and a spanner in her hair and is described as “intelligent, ingenious and inventive”.
She will be the 36th Little Miss character.
According to the book’s blurb, “her brain is full of ideas, which she turns into extraordinary inventions in a shed at the bottom of her garden”.
Her inventions include a chatter-natter hat for Little Miss Chatterbox and a backpack-snack-attack fridge for Mr Greedy.
The book of her story will be released on 8 March 2018, to coincide with International Women’s Day and British Science Week.
Adam Hargreaves, who is the son of Mr Men and Little Miss creator Roger Hargreaves, said: “I always enjoy creating a brand new character for the series and it was fun coming up with lots of crazy inventions for Little Miss Inventor’s home and silly ones for all her friends.
“It’s also been nice to write a story that promotes a positive role model and to challenge a stereotype, if only in a small way.”
Fans have taken to Twitter praising the new role model:
Gen Ashby tweeted: ‘The new Little Miss Inventor is the playground feminist muse we’ve all been waiting for!’
Orion Electrotech tweeted: “Little Miss Inventor is a symbolic step forward in this ongoing battle for recognition”
