The final instalment of this year’s Square Meal Martell Amateur Critic of the Year competition is fast approaching, and the top prize – an all-inclusive two-night trip to
Cognac for the winner and three friends, plus a tour of the Martell vineyards and distillery (pictured below) – is still there for the taking.
reviewers have already won prizes for their efforts: in spring, James J’s account of Arbutus clinched him a £250 meal for two at
L’Autre Pied; he even wrote another review for the site based on his experience (James J is pictured, right). Then, in summer,
Grumbling Gourmet wrote about his evening at Spuntino, earning himself a meal on us, which he chose to spend it at Trinity. Both winners also walked away with a bottle of Martell XO.
Plus, in April, Sabrina’s Passions (pictured, left) weighed in with her 100th review, and won a bottle of bubbly for being the first Square Meal reviewer to
reach a century.
There’s still time to claim the coveted main
prize, but you’ve got to be in it to win it. Over the next few weeks our editorial team will be drawing up a shortlist, which will include amateur critics who have made consistently high-quality
contributions to squaremeal.co.uk during the last year, as well as relatively new writers who have submitted a series of stand-out reviews. A panel of
judges will then consider the shortlisted reviewers, with the winner announced in the autumn edition of Square Meal Lifestyle magazine.
Hundreds of you have already risen to the challenge, writing top-notch reviews that really help our readers to decide where to eat out. Each and every one of your reviews is read by our editorial
team, and it’s not too late for new entries to be considered for the shortlist. Plus, reviews we consider especially good will win their author a bottle of Champagne. Good luck!
