My three favourite hotels in Dubai

It was on my first trip to Dubai that I discovered I had five-star tendencies.

The three-star hotel that I stayed in did not give me the experience of Dubai that I had heard about and seen online. The surrounding area of this hotel was extremely far from all the beauty and extravagance of Dubai, and the hotel itself was quite mediocre; small beds, uncomfortable sofas and a very tiny lobby. When I returned to Dubai a few years later I stayed at some of Dubai’s top hotels and instantly fell in love with the city. I will now share some of my more pleasant experiences with you, about these hotels.

The Atlantis hotel

Atlantis the Palm is seen as one of Dubai’s top hotel’s, with its luxury views and comfort. The five-star hotel comes with many activities and attractions within the hotel, such as; Aquaventure the water park, Dolphin Bay where you can swim with the dolphins, the underwater aquarium, scuba diving, a kids club, beaches and pools, a gym, a spa and plenty of shopping. The Atlantis has a great variety of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, featuring 16 different restaurants within the hotel. The various restaurants feature buffets and a-la-carte menu, along with bars and a shisha terrace. The Kaleidoscope restaurant is a buffet restaurant perfect for those who can’t decide what to eat. The impressive buffet contains live cooking stations, so you can see your food being prepared, and indulge in a world of international dishes. Whether someone wants an Indian curry, an Italian pizza or an Arabic falafel, Kaleidoscope is the place to dine. The Atlantis is a great hotel for kids to play whilst the parents relax, or for a group of ladies, teens or adults. The range of activities and excursions allows the Atlantis to appeal to almost anyone.

The Jumeirah beach hotel

The Jumeirah beach hotel, also five-star, welcomes you as soon as you walk in, with the friendly staff and their attentive service.  Not as busy as the Atlantis, The Jumeirah Beach Hotel allows its staff to cater for each of their guests needs to great satisfaction. The Jumeirah Beach Hotel also has quite a lot of activities such as; The Wild Wadi Water park which is free for all  resident guests ; an added bonus being, three great pools, water sports, spa’s, tennis, squash , a gym and much more. The many activities allow the hotel to appeal to adults, children, ladies, groups and couples. This hotel also has 16 different restaurants, which range from buffets to a-la-carte menus. The variety in restaurants caters to everyone’s needs; be that a romantic meal for a couple on the beach, to a family meal at the Latitude restaurant or partying until the small hours at club 360°.My personal favourite was the Latitude restaurant, the buffet allowed me to try a variety of different dishes.. Some days I tried the delicious stir fry from the Chinese station and on other days I opted for the more English fish and chips or a pizza. As the choice is so vast, having a little taste of everything was a must. Latitude Creations deserves its own special mention, the dessert counter, was teeming with many divine desserts such as; cheesecakes, cakes, pastries, buns and puddings. Again, the Jumeirah Beach is an appealing hotel for almost anyone as it has plenty of things to do, and will definitely not be a disappointment.

Oasis Beach Tower apartments

The Oasis Beach Tower Apartments is another fantastic place to stay when in Dubai. The tower of serviced apartments is a five-star property located on the most chic stretch of Dubai known as the Jumeirah beach walk, which is in the heart of New Dubai overlooking the beach. The accommodation is perfect for families as well as couples and groups, and there are a range of one to four bedroom apartments. The tower apartments are also close to the Marina Mall, the Marina Yacht Club and it has a whole variety of excellent restaurants and cafes on its doorstep. An added benefit is that the marina metro station is a short walk away should you wish to explore Dubai. For in-house dining , guests can delight in the live cooking stations which serve Mediterranean food at the Thyme Restaurant & Bar, get a variety of snacks on the go at the Citrus Express, enjoy Japanese cuisine at Wagamamma, relax in the vibrant piano bar at the Italian restaurant Frankie’s or sample Polynesian dishes at the Mai Tai restaurant. The vibrant atmosphere of the Jumeirah Beach walk diminishes the difference between day and night, allowing guests to feel safe when stepping out of the towers at any time. Therefore I highly recommend The Oasis Beach Tower Apartments, particularly for those who like a bit of independence from hotels.

Overall I’ve had some great experiences and memories at all these hotels. From all three my favourites would be the Jumeirah beach hotel and the Oasis Beach tower, simply because the Jumeirah beach has great activities, whereas the Oasis Beach has a great atmosphere surrounding the hotel.

Dubai aquaventure_water_parkAlthough the Atlantis is a fantastic hotel to stay at, and an experience within itself, it did not appeal to me as much as the others as it was too busy and lacked warmth and cosiness. However I did find that there was a wider variety at the buffet restaurant The Kaleidoscope, in the Atlantis, as opposed to The Latitude in the Jumeirah beach hotel. From an activity perspective I did prefer the Wild Wadi Water Park to the Aquaventure water park as the rides were more exciting and fun.

If you want to stay in an apartment as opposed to a hotel room then I would recommend staying at the Oasis Beach tower as there is plenty to do and see outside of the towers, and they also have excellent guest service.
