Ambition First exists to empower emerging business talent, to enable and maximise individual potential, to enrich businesses through diversity and inclusion, and to bring something new to UK business.
mbition First: Our Story
Ambition First was founded in March 2015. The committee met whilst attending the Women of the World (WOW) Festival. Hearing from the influential, successful and inspirational business women who participated in the Bloomberg panel discussion about the number of women in leadership roles in FTSE 100 companies highlighted further the lack of equality within corporations at Board level. Subsequent discussions amongst millennial attendees acknowledged that the focus of equality in the workplace is at Board level and may neglect to address the next, successive generation. It was decided that we must take action, from the ground up.
Ambition First How are we tackling it?
Our three key initiatives are: training and development, a schools and universities programme and mentoring and coaching. Through these initiatives, we write thought leadership papers, research and discuss emerging trends, engage with the government to ensure that our voice contributes to future policies and strategy, and assist with developing a very talented and diverse pipeline of future business leaders.
Recent events include: a negotiation panellist event in partnership with BNY Mellon with a keynote by Natalie Reynolds of AdvantageSPRING; an interactive Brexit debate hosted by Hogan Lovells LLP, whereby audience members had the opportunity to put their referendum focussed questions to a panel of highly experienced individuals including an MP and business and commerce leaders; in addition to a event titled ‘Dare to Do’: an inspirational evening at the Southbank Centre with Sarah Outen MBE, who kayaked, cycled and rowed solo around the world.
