NotYourWife is a new media company centred around amplifying the voices of South Asian women and discussing the experiences of diasporic South Asians. Through a combination of articles, events, workshops and social media platforms, the brand is committed to sharing the untold stories of South Asian women and ‘third culture kids’ growing up in the diaspora.
The name of the platform is a ‘tongue-in-cheek’ reference to the cultural stereotype attached to South Asian women, which celebrates women as daughters, wives and mothers, but never for their individuality, and choices outside of marriage.
In under a year, their fast-growing platform has gained an organic following of over 30,000 individuals on social media (Instagram:
NotYourWife__), and reaches just under half a million individuals on a weekly basis. More recently, NotYourWife was awarded a 2021 Asian Media Award for its online presence.
They have recently been featured in Vogue, Refinery29, The Independent, CNN and more. Their work has been recognised around the globe, with the co-founders being named Female Entrepreneurs to Watch in 2021 by Techround, Social Entrepreneurs to Watch in 2021, and are finalists in the National Diversity Awards 2021.
