According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. studio are planning to produce the spin-off entitled Ocean’s Eight. Also rumoured to be in talks to star in the film are Helena Bonham Carter, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kayling and Sandra Bullock.

Production of the new Ocean’s Eight film is set to begin in October, with director Gary Ross expected to be shooting the movie. Ross has previously directed The Hunger Games. The film is to be produced by Steven Soderbergh, who was responsible for the 2001 remake of the original film.

Back in June, Bonham Carter told Entertainment Weekly that, “it’s a really good script – but I still don’t know if I’m going to be in it.”

“But it’s a great script, and it’s great for women. Just hilarious.”

Also in the same month, Ross told Slashfilm that, “I think it’s a pretty similar tone. This is very much an extension and a continuation…I’m in no way trying to reinvent the tone, and I’m thrilled and honoured to be extending it. It’s really fun to work with.”

However, Warner Bros. has declined to comment on the rumours.

The news of the spin-off comes after the highly anticipated release of the all-female remake of Ghostbusters. The new film starring Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig received a huge backlash on social media, was panned by critics and flopped at the box office.
