Last year, we had wonderful support from individuals and companies who helped to provide every woman and child who stayed in our refuges and accessed our floating support over Christmas with two gifts each!
As you know many of our refuge residents come to the shelters with nothing but the clothes they are wearing so Christmas can be a very hard time.
Children opened the gifts to reveal toys, clothes, activity sets and women were thrilled to be treated to perfumes, warm clothes, hair straighteners and many other items; mums were thrilled that their babies were spoilt rotten with rattles, comforters, cuddly toys, clothes and cots and of course our teenagers were beyond delighted to get mp3 players, games, bags, books and so much more! Their kindness meant the world to women and children, at a time when they needed it the most.
One of refuge residents said “Thank you for all the presents for myself and my children. It made me cry because it was nice to see my children so happy and excited when opening the presents. I have not seen them like this for a long time.”
Last year gifts were bought online through John Lewis which were then delivered straight to the refuges. It would be wonderful if everyone could browse through our gift list and buy a Christmas present or two to ensure that every women and child in our refuges has a merry and happy Christmas; probably for the first time in many years.
