09/11/2016: Spark 21 Conference 2016

Spark 21

First 100 Years invite you to join us on 9 November 2016 for an inspirational day of positive debate about the future of women in law.

Attend our second flagship conference, SPARK21, on 9th November 2016, chaired by Dame Jenni Murray from Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. We are pleased to announce that the day will be closed by Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, the Rt Hon Liz Truss MP, the first woman appointed to this role in its 800 years’ history.

Dame Jenni, who has presented Woman’s Hour since 1987, received an OBE in 1999 for services to radio broadcasting, and was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 2011.

This one-day conference is being hosted by Simmons & Simmons with a series of panel debates chaired by Dame Jenni Murray and a host of unmissable speakers including social anthropologist Professor Emma Crewe from SOAS University of London; features editor of the Law Society Gazette, Eduardo Reyes; Museum of London curator Beverley Cook, and many more. The full programme will be available on www.spark21.org soon.

What participants said about Spark21 last year:

“It was a fascinating day, which certainly challenged my perceptions of ‘what women lawyers want’.”

“Thank you for arranging a great conference and for your work on the project. It is a great initiative.”

“Congratulations on the conference. It is a great topic and one which will only grow in impact as more people get to know about the huge changes which have occurred in women’s roles in the law over the last 100 years.”
