Style shrinks: Our experts analyse the four trailblazers setting the fashion pace this season

Gemma says

He’s friends with designer Henry Holland, and style-setters such as Pixie Geldof and Agyness Deyn, so it’s no wonder that the Radio 1 DJ knows a thing or two about how to dress. His style is suitably east London – think plaid shirts and baseball jackets – and he generally looks as though he’s thrown on any old thing, but my guess is it’s not a happy accident.

Hugh says

Fittingly for a man who seemingly never sleeps, Grimmy has as many looks as there are hours in the day, equally at home in grungy hoodies and T-shirts  as he is in dandy-ish three-piece suits. Though we like him best doing “smart-cas” combined,  as with this Miami Vice-ish ensemble, which only suffers from a lack of rolled-up sleeves.

POSH TOTTY: EDDIE REDMAYNE

Gemma says

He has two modelling campaigns for Burberry under his belt and Mr Redmayne looks every bit the quintessential Englishman in his dress. The Old Etonian favours the smart look – wool blazers, shirts and ties et al – and while he’s been spotted in a velvet suit on the odd occasion, we can forgive a fashion faux-pas every now and again.

Hugh says

Eton, Cambridge, more high-end period pieces than a young Helena B-C: the Les Mis actor is, as he has noted, “insanely privileged”, and that charmed advantage stretches to red-carpet dressing. No mere p-p-p-icking up a penguin suit for him: think natty tweeds, cobalt-blue suits and velvet jackets in all shades  of louche. (Well, this poseur approves, at least.)

EFFORTLESS COOL: FRANK OCEAN

Gemma says

“I don’t wear women’s clothes,” was Frank Ocean’s response  to The Hollywood Reporter’s querying whether Frank might take a leaf out of Kanye’s  Céline-wearing book. But that didn’t stop the rapper attending  a whole host of womenswear shows at Paris Fashion Week  – Dior, Givenchy, Margiela and Chanel included. He wore sweaters and trainers, natch,  but he looked pretty fly with it.

Hugh says

Given it’s been a matter of some contention, can we confirm that we appreciate the rapper more than anyone else? And that includes his off-beat style, from the Björn Borg sweatbands  to the bold shirt prints and this supremely nonchalant, haute-skater kid PFW look. That wheeze you hear? The sound  of all those other try-hard FROWers expiring with envy.

PREPPY INTELLECTUAL: JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT

Gemma says

My, hasn’t he grown! From geeky teen to handsome heart-throb, that is. Mr Levitt is equally comfortable in a baseball cap and sweatshirt watching a basketball game as he is sporting on slim-fit tux on the red carpet, although in fact he looks most divine in casual tailoring, as with the left outfit. Like his character in Inception, he’s just dreamy.

Hugh says

Who would have thought the  3rd Rock from the Sun moppet would become Hollywood’s most intelligent young actor? But then, again, what do we know about  his IQ? This supposition is wholly premised on his erudite style: preppy but not too Gap, JFE – that’s our crap acronym for “Just Fashion Enough” – and finished off beautifully with that golden age, side-swept hairstyle.
