Department Profile:QAPM is a newly formed division that provides Quality Assurance and Production Management services to all clients within the Firm. QAPM partners with the development teams to ensure seamless technology delivery to our clients: ISGT, CPT, MSIM, MSWM Tech, ED&S, and TIR. QAPM’s goal is to deliver a first-class technology platform by ensuring top-notch service within QA and Production Management. This division will support the evolution of technology platforms and tools, manage and maintain our production plant, and ensure the implementation and adherence to proper operational controls to manage risk.

Team Profile:

Morgan Stanley’s Rates product offering provides a range of applications that allow users to execute Rates transactions and manage the subsequent risks.
The Rates Production Management team is responsible for ensuring the stability and integrity of these applications and their associated infrastructure.

Primary Responsibilities:

Rates Production Management require a talented individual to join the 8 person London team providing 2nd & 3rd line support expertise for Morgan Stanley’s critical Rates systems

The Rates Support Expert is the definitive source of knowledge, technique and expertise in the domain of Rates Electronic and OTC trade execution, trade capture, PnL and Risk Management. The Rates Support Expert functions as the ambassador for production Rates applications and applies their expertise to support the strategic direction of the Morgan Stanley Rates Business.

Candidates would be expected to perform the following roles:

• Partner with development colleagues to provide in-depth product domain expertise (system architecture, infrastructure, workflows, functionality, and business criticality)
• Maintain a library of concise support documentation for use by the horizontal team; partner with development team to standardize content of detailed technical documentation
• Empower the horizontal team through continuous knowledge sharing and scalable support procedures
• Coordinate global Production Management initiatives relevant to the product domain
• Provision monitoring tools for horizontal team and ensure accurate, practical alerting
• Design and deploy simple-execution or automated RFB checks
• Manage all owned incidents to resolution, ensuring accurate and ongoing communication to all impacted groups throughout the incident cycle
• Perform root cause analysis and manage the delivery of agreed follow ups after incidents
• Co-ordinate liaison with Business Unit and act as representative for all Rates IT stakeholders during incidents
• Partner with development and QA colleagues to plan, test, and deliver supportable change
• Provide governance and IT Test approval for all changes within the product domain
• Manage application placement across the plant and schedules with an aim towards balance and simplicity
• Manage hardware/software obsolescence Skills Required:

• Must be a highly motivated self-starter and self-driven who is happy working for demanding clients.

• Trading infrastructure and application support expertise, for example: familiarity trade capture, trade flows between systems, PnL and Risk Management

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a professional ownership of issues

• Strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to clearly present technology to a non-technical audience

• Understanding of n-tier application architectures and experience with inter-application communication techniques such as soap, sockets and MQ

• Familiarity with Grid type infrastructure where thousands of calcs are distributed across thousands of grid nodes

• Technical strengths must include the ability to demonstrate strong knowledge of UNIX / Linux and the ability to use UNIX / Linux utilities to parse log files and diagnose host issues.

• Basic use of a scripting language and competence in a dynamic programming language (e.g. Perl or Python).

• ITIL Foundation Qualification

Skills Desired:


• Experience supporting Java applications

• Experience working with and supervising offshore resources

• Knowledge of Rates products, Pricing techniques and Risk measures would be a considerable advantage.
