The Most Important Health Supplement

Lemon WaterThere is one essential health supplement we often overlook. It’s costs almost nothing, is essential to our wellbeing, and brings with it many benefits.

You know you should be drinking more of it, but do you? Unfortunately, most people are functioning in a state of dehydration.

70% percent of our body and 80% of our brain is made up of water. Water is like oil to a machine for us. Without water, your body will stop working. When your body grinds to a halt you will be faced with an array of medical complications including fatigue, joint pain, weight gain, headaches, and high blood pressure.

Many people don’t know that by the time they are thirsty, their body is already dehydrated. It’s very important to drink water throughout the day, not just when you’re thirsty. Aim for 2-3 litres of water per day, or at least 8 glasses of water.

If you’d like to be more specific, there is a better way to measure your required water intake. Our bodies are all different and the amount of water we require depends on our weight and also our activity, which makes sense because the more someone weighs or moves the more water the require. The best way to work out your recommended daily consumption is by taking your bodyweight (in pounds) and halving it. That number is the amount of water you should be drinking in ounces.

Water is necessary for the body to digest and absorb vitamins and minerals. It’s also the key to a healthy digestion system. A healthy consumption of water alleviates fatigue, keeps you in good mood and improves brain function.

Another great thing about water is that it’s zero calories …so you can have as much of it as you want. Always choose water over sugary drinks (which dehydrate you). Add some lemon or lime to your water to give it some flavour.

Last …but definitely not least, water is the best natural anti-ageing supplement. If you’re concerned about the lines you may have around your eyes and lips, drinking enough water will leave your skin plump, hydrated and full of life.
