The role:

Equality, diversity and inclusion is a priority for employers in the UK and beyond, nowhere more so than in the legal profession. The Law Society is committed to guiding and educating law firms on this subject and supporting its members who are underrepresented in the profession. As a Policy Adviser you will support the Law Society divisions, including Womens Lawyers Division and the Lawyers with Disabilities Division. You will be involved in developing the Diversity and Inclusion Charter which is a flagship initiative and you will work in conjunction with the CRED Manager to widen the reach of the charter throughout England and Wales. This is an exciting and varied role where your expertise and knowledge will be used to great effect.

  • Experience of delivering events, including content management and presenting

Essential

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent experience
  • Comprehensive and demonstrable knowledge of equality and diversity legislation and relevant codes of practice
  • Knowledge and understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion within the legal profession with particular knowledge of women and disability
  • Experience of building, expanding and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders of various levels of seniority while also advising them on best practice
  • Experience of committee management and support (or similar)
  • Experience of delivering events and presentations to key stakeholders
  • Demonstrable project management skills with experience in managing tendering, including setting and monitoring key performance indicators
  • Self motivated and highly organised with the ability to manage a demanding work load whilst exhibiting excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team, meeting individual targets and contributing to shared goals
  • Highly developed inter-personal, communication, and influencing skills including clear and concise written skills, active listening skills and strong verbal skills
  • Excellent IT skills on Word, PowerPoint, Excel, email and internet
  • Willingness to attend out-of-hours events from time to time
Desirable
  • Experience of managing budgets
  • Knowledge of the legal sector and how solicitors operate in both large and small firms
  • Experience of working in a membership organisation

Working pattern: Full time – flexible working may be considered

Working hours: 35 hours per week

Salary: £38,291 per annum
