WATC Winner competition review: “Blissful calm in a perfect location”

Whether you are looking for a quiet retreat for a romantic getaway,  a spa trip with the girls,  a family trip or even business The Lakeside Hotel by Newby Bridge is perfect.

The staff made you feel very welcome and quite simply could not do enough for you.

Myself and my partner have just returned from 3 nights at Lakeside. We were lucky enough to win a room through the WATC website with a lake view which was so lovely to wake up to. The views of the lake and surrounding forests are truly stunning and you get all the natural wildlife like ducks waddling over by the boats. The room and bedding itself was very comfortable with a lovely seating area overlooking the lake and moorings. There is great attention to detail and even our tea cups were beautiful and certainly suited the luxurious theme. A walking guide is left for you in the room so you can attempt various routes around the area.

Lakeside PoolThe hotel is kept immaculate – I don’t think I have ever seen cleaner bathroom chrome fittings.

I loved the pool area – so relaxing with a large pool and Molton Brown products and fluffy towels. Aveda products are on sale in the Spa and you get Gilchrist Soames toiletries in the rooms. I didn’t try out the actual spa treatments as we were short on time but enjoyed the pool, steam room and jacuzzi on the 3 mornings we were there. My partner used the gym area and enjoyed the stunning views of the pool and lakes from his treadmill.

The staff made you feel very welcome and quite simply could not do enough for you.

Cons-1The food was really delicious with local home-made produce.  We tried the main restaurant and had their set menu and the food quality was outstanding. The breakfast menu had a great selection and if you wished you could take your tea/coffees afterwards to the conservatory area to while away the time. The conservatory area itself is a lovely spot for afternoon tea. We also visited the John Ruskin bar and brasserie which were both very warm and cosy.

We took the boat to Bowness one day which was very conveniently located just outside – the aquarium is also next door so perfect for entertaining children. The steam railway is also located nearby but sadly this only opens as of April 5th.

To summarise if you are looking for a home from home with luxurious touches and peace and calm then Lakeside is the place for you and the perfect tonic to a hectic working week.

We hope to return again very soon.

A big thank you to Jonathan Robb the Manager who really looked after us and of course to WATC!
