We hear from one of WeAreTheCity’s 1st ever members… How I Made my Work and Lifestyle Choices for the 21st Century

The pregnancy test turned blue… !!!

I met my husband Finn later in life  – we married when I was 40.  We both really wanted a family, but of course, the odds aren’t so good at that age, so the positive test was fabulous news. However, back then I was commuting 4 hours a day from Winchester to London, and I knew I didn’t want to do that when we had a little one at home.  Finn, who has his own business, would only be able to take time off to do nursery/school pick-ups or rescue a poorly child by cancelling clients and losing income.  We needed both incomes, so, like many people in our situation we faced having to pay for child-care with other people looking after our longed-for baby.

We decided that we had to look for a different way.  And we found it!

About 2 years ago I had been approached by good friends about a new business they had started and were very excited about. Although I was cautiously interested, the timing just wasn’t right for me. Now however, with our lives about to change radically, I decided to have a closer look.  Maybe it had all sounded a bit too good to be true – but… what if what they said was true…. maybe… it was what we were looking for…

… A business that allows you to choose your working hours to fit around family/lifestyle; building your own business and not working for someone else who dictates your hours, salary and job security; working from home; coaching and support; personal development with quality training locally, nationally and internationally; and all of this under the umbrella of a 35 year old global organisation, with an impeccable track record, that has seen year on year growth to a $2.6 billion turnover through booms and busts, and who in the UK have achieved the highest Investors in People accolade – Gold Champion.

After some serious research, we were satisfied that this was a very real opportunity for us to take control of our lives, our time, and our income, and decided to start.  The change is fantastic.  We’ve worked, of course, but flexibly around the run up to and birth of our son Heath. Sleep is at a bit of a premium at the moment but despite this, the business is really growing – we have built and are coaching and supporting a fabulous team of dynamic people who are also keen to make a difference in their lives, and we are showing them the way.

I now know that I will not have to go back to commuting to London, leaving my son behind.

Our family’s financial future is secure, we’re having such fun, and all by helping others achieve what they want.

If you too would like to escape the restrictions of working a “job”; would like to find out more about building your own business – part-time or full-time – within our dynamic team and under an umbrella company that rewards you handsomely for your efforts; provides the opportunity for multiple income streams; can give you a residual pension style and willable income; with amazing ongoing coaching and support along the way, then please contact me for more information.
