Tamsin Burford, WATC member and director of online designer ski wear boutique Winternational.co.uk says proudly, “This is our 9th season and our collection this year is called Skiing is Believing. It features wonderful designs from Sportalm Kitzbuhel, Emmegi, Fusalp and Goldbergh and we think it’s our best collection yet.”
Fabric and insulation technology has improved so much that they perform well in a wide range of weather conditions although garments look and appear light. The performance fabrics available to the designers stocked by Winternational means that greater attention can be paid to cut and style with the result that those days of baggy bulky ski wear are gone for good. The image is therefore chic and relaxed, in vogue but not a slave to fashion. Four-way stretchy fabrics and clever seaming enable freedom of movement. Even down-filled jackets need not add pounds and inches – with Winternational’s collection of down-filled jackets you can be sure you will be warm and cozy but still look good on the slopes.
In terms of colours, black, white or red are true classics that always look good, but can still be updated with a fresh attention fabric, particularly if you pay attention to cut and fit of your garments when buying. This season, Winternational has a wonderful French navy ski jacket, which is perfect when teamed with French navy ski pants or a fresh white pant. Top tip – don’t worry about wearing whites on the piste – a little scrub with a baby wipe or make-up remover wipe at the end of the skiing day and you’ll be good to go again. Tamsin says, “Our white skiwear is pure white but with a subtle and invisible blue tinge, so you’ll will still look white against the snow. And you can thank me for the baby wipe tip!”
If you fancy something a little different, Winternational has some beautiful greys and silvers, perfect soft pinks, faux leathers in beige and brown as well as textured blacks.
As for ski pants and one pieces, Winternational has a great selection of classic ski pants, four way stretch boot cut trousers and skinny fit ski pants with stirrups. Tamsin says, “The Paris skinny fit ski pant is perfect for the piste. They are almost totally waterproof and really windproof. I tested them last year and even though I am a person who is the first to feel the cold, I was warm and comfortable in these pants. It was lovely to be in a sleek well fitting ski pant that moved with me as I skied but kept me warm and dry in all weathers.” What’s more the Paris ski pant packs up really small so it’s the ideal item to take to have as an extra pant.
