Dane Pedro is a master’s-educated, legal and senior compliance leader with a combined total of 30 years of expertise across the law and financial services industries as an in-house professional and an external executive consultant.
Across her career, Dane has worked for the Financial Conduct Authority and Financial Ombudsman Service, as well as small, medium and global-sized FinTech firms, including American Express. She became a magistrate in 2015, followed by Presiding Justice for His Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Services. With a unique combination of in-depth business, regulatory and legal expertise, Dane intuitively balances good governance with commercial imperatives.
Dane’s consistent achievements in large-scale compliance implementations have delivered multiple sustainable governance frameworks that safeguard corporate reputations and legal standing. Across organisations including WorldFirst UK, Alipay UK, and TotallyMoney, she incorporated the FCA’s Consumer Duty rules accompanied by cross-organisation training for hundreds of employees that fostered lasting compliance cultures and operational resilience.
At American Express, she drove compliance excellence as head of Monitoring and Testing, with high-volume, high-quality reviews and automation that eradicated errors and backlogs and expedited business decision-making. Across other organisations, Dane protected customers with rigorous enforcement of marketing activities and eliminated mis-selling. A keen champion of people empowerment and mentoring, Dane has overcome resistance and maximised strained resources to deliver results. She collaborates at all levels and builds trusted, longstanding stakeholder relationships.
Her voluntary work as a magistrate has enabled Dane to administer fair and just outcomes in both the Adult and Youth Courts. As the ultimate decision-maker for sentencing, penalties, probation, and conditions of bail, she works closely with legal advisors, police, witnesses and probation services. Dane is also a member of The Magistrates Association, and shared her insights in an article as part of Volunteer’s Week in June this year as to what being a female magistrate is about, including the importance of her role and why she values the opportunity to make a difference in society.
Dane has a passion for empowering others and has been involved in several mentoring initiatives where she has dedicated her time to mentoring university and college students, as well as women in the financial services industry through organisations including Women in Banking and Finance, Bridging Barriers, Brightside, City University and The Girl’s Network.
Dane is an Ambassador of Academy Achievers an organisation whose mission is to raise awareness about the under representation of women in STEM and has been involved in a few events as part of the Be Me Digital Inclusion initiative with several schools to promote the importance of digital inclusion.
In promoting gender equality for women and young girls, Dane was appointed as a UN Women UK delegate in 2024. In 2023 her work also included a contribution through poetry which saw her poem ‘POWER’ published as part of a collection of poems to raise funds to support the work of Transformation Power House, a charity who supports women who have experienced domestic violence.
Dane is also part of the Global Queens Community as an Ambassador whose aim is to foster both personal and professional growth for women and male allies, across all sectors, promoting equality, innovation and wellbeing.
Dane holds a bachelor’s degree with honours in Law (LLB) from Birkbeck, University of London, and a master’s degree in law, focusing on ‘Business with Management’ from the University of Law in London. She achieved an Ombudsman Award while at the Financial Ombudsman Service and attained ICA professional membership of the International Compliance Association in 2024.
