David Thomas is the Chief Executive Officer of RBC Capital Markets Europe and Head of Wealth Management – International (WM-I), with responsibility for leading all aspects of RBC’s Capital Markets and Wealth Management businesses in the UK, Channel Islands and Europe, including strategy execution and effective governance. He is a member of the global RBC Capital Markets Operating Committee, the global RBC Wealth Management Operating Committee and the European Executive Committee. He chairs the Capital Markets Europe and WMI-I Operating Committees. Mr. Thomas also holds a number of UK board roles including Executive Director of RBC Europe Limited and Chairman of RBC Global Asset Management (UK) Limited.
Mr. Thomas is the Chair of the UK Diversity Executive Steering Committee and has been instrumental in driving D&I across the organisation, including making public RBC’s commitments to gender through the Women in Finance Charter and to supporting ethnicity through the Race at Work Charter. He has overseen year-on-year increases in senior female representation and has championed a number of changes internally for men and women such as RBC’s comprehensive family friendly policies, diverse sponsorship programmes and a number of D&I training initiatives. Externally, RBC is committed to increasing D&I and has been the proud headline sponsor of WeAreTheCity’s Rising Stars Awards for the past two years and recently renewed for a further three year term.
Outside work, Mr. Thomas is an avid fundraiser and supporter of charitable causes focused on youth and young people. He is a member of the Corporate Partnerships Board for Great Ormond Street Hospital and is active in fundraising for the charity including taking part each year in RBC’s Race for the Kids and Ride for the Kids. He is also a keen supporter of SportsAid and acts as a buddy and mentor to young, aspiring athletes.
Mr. Thomas holds a BSc (Hons) degree from Loughborough University in the UK and joined RBC Capital Markets in 1992 following periods at a UK domestic bank and a technology company. Since joining RBC, Mr. Thomas has held a number of both global and regional mandates in business, technology and functional areas across the firm.
