A number of people were recognised for their support of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) and women communities in 2016 New Year’s Honours List.
The individuals were highlighted for their contributions on working to improve equality for women and LGBT communities.
Alison Pritchard, Government Equalities Office Director, said: “I am pleased to congratulate everyone who has been recognised in the New Year Honours List. The Government Equalities Office is truly grateful for their efforts and dedication to women and LGBT people.
“They have surpassed expectations in helping to fulfil our goal of extending opportunity to all.”
The following received awards:
Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE)
- Amanda Ariss, former Chief Executive of the Equality and Diversity Forum, for services to equality
- Paul Roberts, Chief Executive of the charity LGBT Consortium, for services to LGBT communities
Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)
- Barbara Gray, Women’s Institute member in Oxfordshire, for services to women’s voluntary service in Oxfordshire
- Tim Sigsworth, Chief Executive, Albert Kennedy Trust, for services to young homeless LGBT people
