Women in Finance – | Improvements on Board positions and encouraging new talent

The Independent, in partnership with Media Planet, today published the first edition of Women in Finance.  Contributions from Jo Swinson, Minister for Women and Equalities, Linda Loxley, Owner of WIBN  and WIBF President, Sylvani Caloni.

Jo Swinson was asked: Have women made progress in getting to the top of major corporations as directors and non-exec directors in the boardroom? The answer: Yes, but there is still much more work to be done and the government is launching a raft of initiatives to help.

As of the 1 March 2013, the FTSE 100 companies have;

  • 17.3% of all directorships are female

  • 34% of all board appointments are women

  • 94 boards are currently with female representation

  • A total of 192 female directors hold board positions out of 1,110

The issue also speaks to Sylvani Caloni (President of Women in Banking and Finance) – See her WATC TV Interview here.  When asked ‘ What advice would you give other women starting out within the industry?

Sylvani responds with ‘Ask questions, be bold, and learn how others have succeeded.  Invest time to create a strategy for your progression. Seek out endorsers and share your ambitions with your bosses.’
