Offices are notoriously bad places to be when you’re trying to stick to a new healthy routine. There’s always a posh pack of biscuits just sitting by your desk. Ok, they’re for a client meeting but no one will notice if one goes missing. Then there’s the seemingly endless stream of birthday cakes. It would be rude not to have a slice, but before you know it you’ve scoffed two slices and it’s not even lunchtime yet.
We spend 60% of our waking hours in the office, so it’s important to stick to a healthy lifestyle at work. For balance – and to make sure you’re not cramming your intake into one evening – it makes sense for three of your recommended 5-a-day to be consumed at work. From a business owner’s perspective, a study by health and wellbeing consultancy vielife found that healthy workers are up to 20% more productive – a win-win for business profitability and efficiency.
Big lifestyle changes are difficult to stick to. However, by starting small and introducing healthy habits into your routine, you’ll quickly get hooked.
Here are a few things we Recommend:
Office exercise
There are plenty of stealthy exercises you can do around the office, and no, we don’t mean sneaking into a meeting room to do a few squats. Sit straight in your chair with your feet flat on the floor. Suck in your stomach and extend one leg until it’s level with your hip. Hold for 10 seconds then lower your leg back down. Repeat 15 times then swap legs. You’ll end up with wonderfully sculpted limbs, without having to leave your desk.
Ditch the biscuit tin for fresh fruit
Remove the source of temptation in the office by swapping biscuits for fresh fruit. As well as looking more appealing, fruit within snacking distance makes healthy eating easier. Why walk all the way to the café for a packet of crisps when a ripe and juicy pear is right there? At Fruitdrop, we deliver fruit boxes to businesses both large and small. Each box is packed full of fruit to help employees get through the day – visit www.fruitdrop.co.uk to find out more.
Fill the gaps in your daily routine with healthy activity
Your journey to and from work, those 10 minutes before you start and lunch times are all perfect opportunities to get fit. Get into the habit of getting off the bus or train a stop or two before you need to and walk the rest of the way. If the weather is nice, take a brisk walk outside instead of sitting in the kitchen with a book.
At Fruitdrop, we’re fanatical about fruit, so whether you love plums, grapes, pineapples or bananas, we have a healthy snack for everyone.
