Could you be a Woman of Influence?
Do you have high-level experience in business and leadership?
If so, you could help our rising female scientists to make the next big cancer breakthroughs by mentoring them at a crucial time in their career.
In return, you will gain a unique insight into cancer research and be part of a highly-successful initiative to promote the progression of women in science.
What is the Women of Influence scheme?
The Women of Influence initiative pairs exceptional business women with female Cancer Research UK scientists as they establish their first research team, to provide them with top level mentoring support.
In science, as in many sectors, the proportion of women in senior roles is still well below 50 per cent. We want to help our female scientists break the glass ceiling and continue doing life-saving research.
The scheme has proven hugely successful so far, with our 20 mentees achieving incredible things between them.
“Our initiative is attempting to address this imbalance by mentoring and empowering young female fellows to stay in science, to reach their full potential and to become role models for future generations” – Tamara Box, Chair, Women of Influence
What is involved?
The mentoring scheme is flexible and informal.
We suggest mentor-mentee pairs meet up two to three times per year and remain in regular contact.
You will also be invited to attend our annual Women of Influence career development day, which provides workshops for our scientists and networking for all mentors and mentees.
Our amazing scientists are based throughout the UK and we are looking for mentors in several locations.
