As WeAreTheCity celebrates its extraordinary tenth anniversary, we are delighted to announce that the countdown has begun – only 1 week until nominations open for the 2024 Rising Star Awards, powered by RBC!
Over the past decade, these awards have been at the forefront of recognising and empowering outstanding talent, highlighting the remarkable female talent pipeline below management level in the UK. Having been established in 2015 with the ambitious goal of showcasing 1,000 remarkable women by 2025, WeAreTheCity not only met but exceeded this milestone, marking a decade of dedication, inspiration, and the relentless pursuit of equality.
As we reflect on the success of the Rising Star Awards, where we’ve spotlighted 950 phenomenal winners across the UK and India, we invite you to mark your calendars for the opening of nominations on 15th January 2024.
In this commemorative year, the 2024 Rising Star Awards will honour and celebrate another 100 exceptional women from 20 diverse industries. These women will represent the leaders and role models of the future, building on the legacy of a decade of excellence.
We are proud to introduce several new categories this year, including a global recognition award for women working in ESG and a UK award for women working in Property. Additional categories open for nominations cover a wide spectrum of industries including Banking and Capital Markets, Charities and Not-for-profit, Digital, Healthcare, Law, Technology and more. See nomination criteria here.
In addition to our Rising Star categories, we invite nominations for our distinguished awards, including Champions, Men for Gender Balance, Company of the Year, and the Global Award for Achievement.
The excitement kicks off on 15 January 2024, as we open our online nomination platform, accessible through the Rising Stars’ website here. The ten-week nomination period closes on 21 March, providing ample time to recognise the brilliance that defines our community.
An illustrious panel of judges will curate a shortlist of ten outstanding women from each industry category, along with ten from the Champion, Global Award for Achievement, and Men for Gender Balance categories. Three exceptional companies will also be shortlisted for the coveted Company of the Year award.
Join the Celebration: Save the date! All winners will be announced on 23 May, and the grand celebration awaits at a prestigious awards ceremony in July 2024. Let’s make this tenth birthday celebration a milestone to remember!
Our Champion award recognises the achievements of five senior individuals, male or female, who are actively supporting the female pipeline outside of their day job. Nominations for this award are individuals who have demonstrated their commitment to gender, eg HeForShe supporters, Network Leaders, Directors, MD’s or C-Suite individuals who are championing women either inside or outside their organisations.
Our Men for Gender Balance award recognises the achievements of five senior men who are championing women and gender balance either inside or outside their organisation. Nominees must be at least Director level (or equivalent) or above, must demonstrate that they have actively supported the female pipeline either through their current work role or external activities and must be working in the UK.
The Company of the Year award recognises the achievements of a company who can clearly demonstrate that they are actively supporting its female talent pipeline through their initiatives, training, development programmes and internal employee relations and diversity network groups.
The Global Award for Achievement category expands our search for global talent. This category is a female individual who works within any industry, outside of the UK, whose current position is below director level.

Join us for a candlelit vigil as we come together to honour the lives of women tragically lost to gender-based violence in the past year.
Shockingly, statistics reveal that in the UK, one woman is killed by a man every three days. Let us unite in remembrance, solidarity, and a shared commitment to combating this devastating issue, lighting a path toward a safer, more compassionate world for all.
The evening will feature speakers, music and a moment of reflection followed by refreshments. Please ensure to wrap up warmly for the December weather.

If you can answer yes to one or more of these questions, then you are invited to join us for a day of inspiration, encouragement, empowerment, and JOY.
Are you stuck?
Are you wondering what your life’s purpose is?
Do you feel like life is passing you by?
Are you wondering how to let go?
Are you looking for help in overcoming a challenge?
Can I get over the apology I never had?
Are you lonely?
Are you wondering if to make that change now?
Be reassured. These are questions that many people have asked themselves and indeed our storytellers too. It is the reason why we are grateful for the opportunity to listen to them, and also to learn, share and be inspired by what we hear from them and from others like us in the room.
This is therefore no ordinary conference. Come along with your colleagues, friends and family and join me Yetunde Hofmann and a community of awesome storytellers from all walks of life, backgrounds, and experiences on Friday 13th December 2024. They are leaders willing to share their stories of life and experiences from a place of who they are, not what they do or have.
You will have the quality time to reconnect with who you are and with others on the one thing we have in common and that unites us: We all are human.
No matter our backgrounds, our race, our gender, our status or what our history is.
Join us for a day of inspiration, learning and sharing.
You’ll make new friends, connections and leave with a refreshed feeling of hope as you look forward to closing 2024 and starting 2025 with a spring in your step.
Your coming along will also enable us to raise monies for two awesome charities – Dress for Success and Quo Vadis Trust (QVT) whose line of work and purpose is dedicated to supporting the currently disadvantaged in our communities.
We are pleased to say that you can purchase your ticket with our special discount of 20% on our ticket price of £95.00.
